Are you sure really want to do this?? An 'account' is a single entity like ONE bank account, ONE stock account, etc. One usually doesn't WANT to combine accounts unless they're of the same type held in the same entity. Why would I want my bank account to have stocks held by a brokerage commingled in the same account? You could never balance the account etc.
Let me try therefore again. I want Quicken 2006 to show all my assets and all my liabilities, so that I can see my Net Worth at the bottom.
I presently have my Chase, MasterCard,Citicorp checking and Money market and many others. They are not commingled but show me balances for each.
Now I want to add to that also my Investments, which I presently have downloaded into Quicken 2006 too, but not the same "account" or whatever, where all the other above named items are.
I did something simliar, but far more painful, several years ago. My wife and I were avid Quicken users long before we got engaged. We both wanted to preserve the history of accounts and transactions. Our categories didn't even match and some accounts names were identical. So we sat down and planned out the new categories we wanted. I then created all of the new categories in a brand new Quicken file. In the old Quicken files for each of us I renamed all categories with our initials and added our initials to all of the accounts. Then, I used the Export to QIF feature, and then imported into the new and completely empty Quicken file. I then slowly started changing all of the categories using find and replace features and in some cases making best guess decisions. Eventually I was able to delete all old categories. We've slowly merged all of our accounts now and it's like we've been together all along. It was a pain in the butt though, but possible.
The big things i noticed that Quicken had a very hard time with is split transactions where one or more of the transactions is a transfer to another account. It screwed all of those up and I had to redo them by hand. I think if I had created all of the accounts first before doing any imports it might have worked out OK, but I don' know for sure.
You can follow a similar process of exporting to the new file format and importing into a new Quicken file. Good luck and let us know what you come up with.
You want a report then. The Net Worth Report does that, pronto. Further, you can view combined accounts to make reports ad lib, using the custom Report function to add or delete accounts ad lib.

So do you have your investments in a different Quicken FILE (ie: not an ACCOUNT?) - in other words, to view all your Quicken data, you actually have to open multiple Quicken files one at a time?
This is a problem, because in Q2006, even though you can export your investment account via QIF, you can't import a brokage account that you exported using QIF export. I think others have work-arounds if you Google the usenet groups or search through this one. I've never done this, so good luck! Sorry I can't add too much, but perhaps others can. (Because of the relatively new restriction of not being able to Import QIF files, not sure that Scott's suggestion can help all that much as he used an earlier version of Q, I believe.
Ogf course, I was assuming you'd want to import from the Quicken fileset that has the fewer transactions (your stocks); maybe going the 'other' way (ie: export all your 'other' fileset assuming you can import them (into the stocks-only fileset?) might be a way to go if that works for you.
Some folks in the NG have used a copy procedure that you might wish to go back through and see if you can find the threads.
Afraid of that. You're right about the lack of important QIF capability to investment accounts; see my earlier post about the copy method some others used that might be of help.
I really wonder what use is a QIF export if one can't import to the same program in another Quicken fileset? Certainly they must have heard the need to be able to combine two Quicken filesets. Maybe (this is naive) you might email Intuit and see if they can provide any assistance, or at least search their website? They do have a Q&A board that you might be able to post your query to...many people who frequent this NG go there as well.
