How do I stop dowloading [sic] future transactions into a bank register?

What the original poster was seeing were not future "transactions": they were "confirmations" for instructions for future online billpay transactions. One distinction between a "transaction" and a "confirmation": downloaded "transactions" get a "c" in the Quicken "Cleared Status" column, downloaded "confirmations" do not. When the actual online bill pay "transaction" is downloaded in the future, it should "Match" the downloaded bill pay "confirmation".

Also it should not be necessary to change the Connection Method from Direct Connect to Express Web Connect to stop receiving downloaded billpay "confirmations" (EWC is a decidedly inferior Connection Method): all that was necessary was to deactivate the Quicken account for "Bank Bill Pay" (earlier known as "Online Payment"). "Bank Bill Pay" is a separate downloading feature from "transaction download", so an account can be activated for "transaction download" while deactivated for "Bank Bill Pay".

To clarify: The ONLY reason that switching from Direct Connect to Express Web Connect disables the downloading of billpay "confirmations" is that Quicken online billpay requires the Direct Connect connection method. And having online billpay activated in Quicken is what allows the downloading of billpay "confirmations".

Conversely: when a Quicken account is activated for Direct Connect downloads and Online Billpay (or, as now called, Bank Billpay) Billpay, it is likely that online billpay "confirmations will be downloaded whenever a billpay instruction is issued to the financial institution - even if the billpay instruction is created while the user logged on at the financial institution. Merely deactivating the Quicken account for Online Billpay (Bank Billpay) - while leaving the account activated for Direct Connect - will prevent the downloading of billpay confirmations.
