Dealing with Credit Card balances

Here is an example: I have a credit card that is fully paid off and has no balance due. But, maybe because of the way I set up its account in Quicken, Quicken shows it, in the section "Banking", as having a "Online Balance" of -xxx and an "Ending Balance" of -xxxx none of which make any sense to me. All downloaded transactions have been accepted.

How do I adjust these two balances to 0 without affecting other accounts? Unlike Investing accounts there is no adjustment transaction that I can find.

Sounds like you're missing 1 or more transactions (probably payments, since your balance is negative) in that account. ALTERNATIVELY, you've got 1 or more charges double-posted.

SO, when was the last time that you reconciled the account? db

There are all sorts of things that could produce that effect.

If you are still using the card, the online and ending balances will typically not be zero. The online and ending balances should be zero if you stopped using the card, paid it in full and the bank has processed your payment.

Is the balance after the last transaction in the register 0 or is it xxxx?

Do you have transactions in the account that have never cleared? This can happen if you accidentally enter a duplicate transaction and don't delete one of them when the other clears. It's also possible that a merchant never actually processed a transaction. I even seen a case where a totally incorrect transaction downloaded but never appeared on a bill.

Are any of the taransactions scheduled? I often have ending balances that include scheduled transactions that I have entered when the vendor's bill arrives to capture the amount for the specific month.

Hope this helps.
