FYI:Turbo Tax major problem: 5639

Just so you all are aware, many people, including myself, have experienced error 5639 and further inability to use TTAX. It happened to me this morning after I updated. TTAX needed to reboot my system,
as usual, after the update and that's when the error popped up. You can clear the error from the screen but can do nothing further with TTAX. Intuit knows about it but there is no fix at this point. They tell you to use TTAX online while they're working on it :{ Not a solution.
This is the first time in years, maybe ever, that TTAX has completely been unusable for me. Very frustrated. It happens on a variety of OSs too. XP, Vista, Win 7....

Just in case, I created a restore point (Win7, 64bit), and barged ahead, but the update was successful and no error message appeared!

It might be interesting to note what level/release are the current culprits ?

I just updated this morning for the first time in several weeks and had no problems. When I check the update screen, it says I'm using the version dated 1/27/2012

Where did you find the version number/date? I checked Help/About Turbo, but did not see the version date in there. Thanks

Since I didn't expect a problem, I don't know what level I was at before the problem started and I can't start the program at all now. Someone from Intuit is calling me late today to look at my system. The suggestion to uninstall and reinstall didn't work (was supposed to on some Win 7 systems) they want to poke around on my system. Guess I better back up the forms that i filled in a little before they begin "poking", just in case, although I suspect the problem lies in some corrupted program file.

nevermind - If you click on -> Help -> About you get a screen with tabs for -> Version and also -> Components
With all the different modules/components, it would be hard to tell at what point things turned sour....

Even better would be: click on Online > View Installed Updates > Detailed Update History. That gives you a history of when you updated. My last update was 1/31/2012 at 8:15 am. At the bottom of that screen, it gives you the capability to send an error report to Customer Support.
