The Platform Preview is an early look at the Internet Explorer 9 platform so some features are incomplete, some may change, and some may be added.

Microsoft asks that you refrain from providing feedback on features where noted that they are either partially implemented or not available. Microsoft is aware of their condition and will provide updates in future releases. Similarly, for known issues, Microsoft is also aware of their existence and are actively working on them.

Using and setting the home page The default home page of the Platform Preview is the Internet Explorer

9 Test Drive site, which you can use to see demos for and information about the new Internet Explorer 9 platform. You can press F10 at any time to go to your home page.

To change your homepage, right click the Internet Explorer Platform Preview icon in the Start menu and choose Properties. In the Target field on the Shortcut tab add your home page URL to the end of the path

Developer Tools The Platform Preview includes built-in Developer Tools. These tools help developers debug and understand the interaction between their sites and the browser. To open the Developer Tools, click the Debug menu and click Developer Tools, or press F12.

The status bar indicates when the page generates script errors. You can use the Developer Tools to get more information about and debug script errors.

Create Shortcuts to Common Pages To simplify navigating quickly to pages you commonly use you can create shortcuts. To do so, copy the Internet Explorer Platform Preview icon on your desktop and paste it to your desired location. Right click the newly created shortcut and click the Properties menu item. Update the Target field on the Shortcut tab to start the Platform Preview with the URL of your choice

Hi, ilyass.

Thanks for the heads-up. But I'm not familiar with your name or the website you mentioned and I'm careful about where I go to download software. And when I try to go there, I get funny results.

A Bing or Google search for "Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview

1.9.7916.6000" gets lots of hits, but none of them are from Microsoft.com or other sites that I recognize. A fellow MVP, an attorney whose giant law firm deals with large clients in the entertainment field, warns that at least one of the sites is known to pose a security threat.

He also told me about this article:

So I'm not worried about IE9 itself, but only about whether the link you posted will get me MORE than I bargained for! :>( I do try to always "practice safe hex".

This post has malware written all over it. DON'T follow that link. If you want to know about any IE9 beta that might possibly be out there, then go to the source:

RC,

I checked with Web of Trust (WOT), a firefox plug-in and it shows the site with a Very Poor reputation.

Proceed at your own risk --- I'm sure some will.

Hi, Doug.

Yes, Microsoft authored the original. But who knows what changes may have been made between the Mother Ship and your computer if the file has passed through one or more non-Microsoft sites along the way to you.

Be sure that you trust the site from where you receive this file - or any file. And that you trust it TWO ways: First, that it will not harm you intentionally, and second, that it is competent and careful enough to not harm you unintentionally.

Oh! I just noticed the typo in the Author name. ;^} I usually spot those but I sure missed this one. That's even more reason to mistrust this post. Thanks!
