Can anyone tell me what this service is and what functions it performs. It is disabled on my computer and I am trying to decide whether to enable it or not. I am currently running Quicken 2012 on WinXP.

I believe this checks every once in a while whether Quicken has an update available. Probably not needed if you have the current version and release updates installed. My Help|About Quicken says Release R 7 (21.1.7.18), which I believe is the most current one.
Hi, Charlie.
WHERE are you seeing this "Intuit Update Service"? Is it in Quicken? On which menu? Like you and Han, I also run Quicken 2012, but I do not see that "service" mentioned anywhere. Is this from a third-party application that you might have installed?
When I run the One Step Update each day, I sometimes get a notice that a new Release is available, with an offer to download and install it.

That's what mine says as well.
I normally get my updates notices as well in Quicken when it starts if one is available.
I have recently installed System Mechanic on recommedation from Dell and one of the items I see disabled was Intuit Update Service - so I was wondering what it was. Sounds like nothing to worry about?

My CANADIAN version of Quicken 2011 has NO NEW RELEASES. Period. What gives? And, yes, I do the Updates daily.

RC: It is a service that you can see under "Services" in Windows, the services tab of Taskmanager for instance. I have a version 4, and it is set to start automatically. Apparently Charlie's "system Mechanic" is a bit overly zealous. My opinion - I would restart that service for autostart ...
Sharx: I would assume that Canadian Quicken has something similar, but I won't bet on it.

charliec =====================A google for "Intuit Update Service" produced a number of hits which all pretty much identified the process as a valid Intuit image for automatic updating and gave TurboTax as one example. Quicken, I would have to guess, uses its own method/tool... and not this service as I don't have the image on my system and have never used TurboTax but do use Q2012Dlx. Geo.
Hi, Han.
Thanks. Yes, I see TWO lines in Task Manager/Services: IntuitUpdateService IntuitUpdateServicev4
There is no detail shown for either of them (except PIDs 5388 and 2536); the Status for each is "Running". But neither is a part of Quicken itself.
Since neither is causing me any concern (I didn't even know they were there), I shall continue to ignore them. ;

I have also TT 2011. I don't know whether the service we're talking about (I have only 1, in contrast to RC) is for Q or TT.
I also have TT 2011 and Q 2012 and have two "Intuit Update Service" running, one for 8,052k and one for 1216k. I also have 63 other processes running (XP SP3) beside these two so I don't worry about it.
Thanks, RC charliec
