My Amex annual fee did not download for a day

The question about Amex downloading into Quicken reminded me of a quirk I noticed a few days ago. My statement closes on the 15th, my Platinum annual fee posted on the web site on the 14th. I refreshed Q2008 H&B, but the annual fee did not download. AFTER the statement officially closed on the 15th, the annual fee of $450 did download.

My previous experience has been that when charges appear on the web site, they are also downloadable into Quicken.

Not a big deal, but I just thought it was curious Maybe annual fees are handled differently by the Amex server.

Best I clarify this: are you really paying an annual fee of $450 for a f****ng credit card? Hell, VISA pays ME an annual bonus for using their CIBC Dividend card.

My Costco membership gives me a free Amex card. The card's rebates pay easily for the Costco fee.

I also have a Costco Amex. There are over a million suckers like me who pay for Platinum. I would LIKE to be invited to be one of the 20k or so who are stupid enough to pay $2,500 for Black ;-)

Bob P.S. To be invited, one has to charge >250k a year on their Amex.

I noted that you did not give ONE valid benefit from paying THEM $450 a year for the "privilege" of using their credit card. The ONLY reason, so far, that is evident is the SNOB APPEAL. Your use of the word "sucker" in your post, so far anyway, appears to accurately describe those who would pay ANYTHING for a credit card.

Hi sharx35!

There are benefits that I use living in a major metro area in the US and doing a lot of business travel. For example, I fly on business about 20 times per year - most often on Continental. I get "free" access to their Presidents Club. A couple of "free" drinks per trip almost equals the Annual Fee (2 x 40 x $5) - plus having less hassle at the Airport. I also have used the card to help secure good seats at performances. So I think I get value from the card.

At one time I heard this card was only offered and issued to the top 1% of AMEX customers - I don't know if this continues to be true.

IMHO, living in Edmonton and given your lifestyle - the card would not be a good for you.

No doubt! Of course if one was NOT in the habit of having ANY drinks before or during the flight, there would be no such savings, eh? Sort of like: if one does NOT go shopping on a 50% off day, one actually saves 100%, rather than the 50% IF they had gone shopping.

Amex and the others know their marketing well.
