Price History Window Position

The Price History window is moveable, as are most windows in Quicken ... and in Windows ... using the same technique used to move any window.

Yes, I know how to move it but I want it to stay in the same place so I don't have to move it each time I use it.

I have this gripe too. Sometimes I want to extract a whole bunch of price histories to files and its an extra step added for each one when you have to grab the window with the mouse and move it over so you can close it.

Anybody know a better way to get price histories out of quicken and into a file? This method is painful since you have to right-click on the stock, print (that option is almost off-screen), click export to tab-delimited file (or whatever), click OK, specify a file name (and it won't append to an existing file so you need separate files for each stock), open the file, move the window over, and close it.

I don't know why it is that way for you; it is not for me. Not in any version of Quicken I have used (now using Q2005 and working with Q2006).

I'm not sure whether it will be "better" for you or not; it will partly depend on how many securities you have and what you intend doing with the prices, but ....

You can export your all prices to a qif file (in a single export), and after a little manipulation, create a comma delimited file which Excel can use.

Having followed this thread *I* decided to see if my Q2006 Premier does this, open the Price History window skewed off center with the control buttons completely off screen. The result was, drum roll please, yes it does.

Thanks for that suggestion. I find an export (File|Qif) that, among other things, exports all prices. There seems to be an error of some sort - dates greater than 1/1/200 look like this: "FGRIX",44.62,"10/ 5' 0". I think I can deal with that though.

Yes, that error has been there a long time; it's usually the last price for a given security, though it's not necessarily limited to that. That error was one of those "extra manipulations" I had in mind.

One other problem I believe, is that the very first (earliest) price for a given security may be missing altogether.

The date format you mention is the QIF Year 2000 compatible date format. Dates earlier than 2000 has date as mm/dd/yy and dates from

The very last price of each security will be corrupted - it will have a bizarre date or price. You'll have to delete those as well.

I did not pay attention to the exact transaction example you entered. If I had, I would have realized that it is a correct record by qif file standards, but the date probably requires "manipulation" to be treated as valid by Excel.

I mistakenly thought you had included the last price record for FGRIX, which, if you check your qif file, you will find to be truely in error: it probably has no usable data at all.
