Problem trying to download checking transactions

I just tried (for the first time) to download transactions for my checking account. The transactions are downloaded but Quicken can't seem to find the account to which they are to apply.

How do I tell Q which account to use?

Thanks

Please include your Quicken version and year when posting a question, and in the case of a question like this, include the type of download you are attempting.

If you are doing a web-connect download (where you logon to your fi's web site to initiate the download), make sure your Quicken account is not enabled for online access (or activated for transaction download if you have newer versions of Quicken).

Thanks for the correction.

It's Q 2005 Deluxe doing a web-connect. I do not have an online account with Quicken.

I think you misunderstood me. I was referring to the Quicken account for your financial institution in your Quicken data fileset; the account you want your transactions downloaded into. Make sure that account in your Quicken data fileset is *not* "activated for transaction download".

Done.

But no joy. Following the HELP file instructions, clicked on SET UP DOWNLOAD - nothing happens.

I'll keep trying to research the problem - thanks for your help.

Elliott. Pay careful attention to what John is saying. For Web Connect, you do NOT click on "Set up download". You make sure the account in Quicken is NOT enabled for transaction download. Then you initiate a download from the FI website. When Quicken sees that download it wil prompt you for an account to associate. From then on the association will last until you again deactivate transaction download.

I did just that. It lists NO existing account as an option - but asks if I want to set up a NEW account. Somehow it just ignores the existing checking account.

Thanks for the info.

Make sure the account number that is listed in Quicken is the same as the account number for which you are trying to download from your FI. For example, if you manually put in the account number as 12345 and the account number at your FI is 12345S5 then it will not download correctly as it does not recognize the latter 2 which is the letter and number. Check to make sure the account numbers are correct.

The above is very crucial if you have 2 checking accounts in the same account if it is not named correctly then it will not associate the account therefore the account information will not get downloaded as instructed.

This is a common problem and account numbers associations are critical to successful downloads via web connect from your FI.

If you have problems, check with your FI who deals with web connect for more information.

Your information is way outdated. The account numbers are NOT critical to web connect downloads, in fact they are immaterial.
