Q06 is wacky??

Quicken 06 PH&B. When I download a Mfund that I bought last month, it creates two place holders in the registry. One entry is for a fund that I sold in 2004 that has a zero balance of shares and $ and adds the # of shares. The second entry is for a minus amount of shares of the fund that I just bought. Old fund = +xxxx.xx shares and new fund = -xxxx.xx shares Double checked names and MF symbols...not even close. I did another download of the QFX file from my broker and saved it to my desktop and opened it with Notepad. The symbols and data are correct in that file with no reference to the old MF. Only thing that I cannot verify is XXXXXXXX on top of each MF. So I am thinking that Q06 is somehow crossing the data up......any suggestions.?? TIA

Of all your securities, only just this one is not treated correctly?

The " is almost certainly the cusip number. I grant you that, sadly, Quicken no longer makes that number visible. But I have not seen any evidence that Quicken fails to correctly associate cusip numbers in downloads. But then, the ability to make the association requires your confirmation.

I sincerely hope you do not do an "Accept All" when you download transactions; that is almost guaranteed to create problems eventually.

When you download a "new" security, Quicken wants you to tell it whether that security already exists in Quicken or whether Quicken needs to create a "new" security. If you do an Accept All, you may allow Quicken to create a new security that should not be created, or to allow Quicken to associate what should be a new security with the wrong existing security. NEVER blindly do an Accept All.

You can Edit the security and tell Quicken that it is *not* matched to an online security; then the next time you download, you will get the chance to match to the correct existing security, or to create a new one ... if you don't do an Accept All.

John...Yes this is the only one that has ever done this. As far as editing and telling Quicken that it is not matched I might need some help with that....( I have manually went back and edited the shares and changed the symbol etc to show the correct placement, however after the next download, things go wacky again.) When I look at the downloads, before accepting them, I see a buy of the correct stock name and # of shares and then accept. Q somehow associates it with the incorrect one. >

Near the bottom of the dialog should be a box labelled "Matched with online security". Uncheck that box, and the next time you download, you should get another chance to match to the correct security.
