Q2001 Deluxe to Quickbooks EasyStart

I've been using Q2001 Deluxe but the computer I was using has died. Needs new motherboard. Transferred Q files to B/U laptop but couldn't transfer Quicken 2001 and I've lost the original disk.

I thought it was time for an upgrade anyway, so I purchased Quickbooks EasyStart. It won't recognize any of my files. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be very much appreciated. I don't want to start from scratch.

Why on earth would you change from Q to QB? Do you have significant receivables, payables and inventory issues to deal with?

Q is primarily for personal financial management, although the "Home & Business" version -- which I use - provides some invoicing features.

QB is a for business use, and is major overkill for most personal record-keeping.

If, for some reason, you continue the path of upgrading to QB, I believe that your question would be better asked in the QB forum, not this forum for Quicken.

I have to admit that when I considered which version to upgrade to, I was completely confused. I looked at the Qucikbooks line and noted that it was much more than I needed. I was using primarily price as a means of choice. . I'm the Treasurer of a Union Local. We don't have any customers.Our only income is from the emplyee dues rebate form Head Office. We have regular bills for phone, internet, office rent etc but that's all.

If I were to exchange QB EasyStart, what would be your recommendation to upgrade to? Thanks in advance. Professor (of nothing in particular)

OK, so I'm assuming that the rebate from the HO is posted as a single deposit to the Union's checking account ... and that you don't need to worry about WHO has actually paid and that sort of stuff. Also assuming that the various bills that you mention are recorded approximately as paid. (i.e., for both income and expenses, you record in much the same way that a family would, and don't worry about "accrual accounting" and such.

The cheapest version of Quicken that you can find. I't's not even apparent that you would need H&B. You might try checking out e-Bay for, say, the 2005 version of Q ... assuming that you can get your money back on the purchase of QB. DO NOT get a "New User" edition ... it can't read your Q2001 data file. Or you can get Q 2006 Basic for $29.99.

BTW, I couldn't find a "EasyStart" on the QB web site. Do you have "SimpleStart", which is priced at $99.95?
