Quicken 2006 and forced obsolescence

With Win98 it's just a matter of time before you experience a major virus attack.

You might try upgrading to 2007---there are copies for sale over on ebay. Mayb you could contact one of the sellers asking them to check the system requirements listed on the CD case to see if it will run on win98.

This would at least buy you another year with quicken.

I also agree with Sharx35 that continuing with win98 is a virus attack waiting to happen. Time to upgrade your machine.

You won't be able to go to Q2007. I, too, was Win98 & Q06 and went to upgrade in '07 but found support for W98 was dropped. I waited and eventually went to XP last year and have now just upgraded to Q09. If support for W98 had not been gradually being dropped for several key apps that I use I likely would have stayed there as it suited my needs.

If you have few enough accounts you might be able to manage them with web-connects and qif's etc. but I don't know that for sure - you'd have to experiment to find out. I'm pretty sure you can't go backwards and, AFAIK, wouldn't gain anything if you could.

The W98 = viruses comments are somewhat off topic and a bit gratuitous. What lends itself to viruses is practicing un-safe surf not Windows 98 in and of itself. Sure 98 had its flaws and is no longer supported etc. but that doesn't mean you will of necessity become infected. I'd maintain that that happens pretty much only when you let it and is not restricted to W98 alone.

Realistically, you probably really should move to, at least, XP and then you'd be okay with Qnk for awhile (I upgraded to Q09 and it hasn't hurt me and I've gained some). I was able to get XP SP2 Full Retail on eBay for $199 incl. shipping and figure for as long as I'll be able to use it that'll become cheap enough. Think about it.
