Quicken 2007 in the UK

Hi All

I have recently read a lot of UK posts about Quicken not being available now in the UK.

The answer for me was to purchase Quicken 2007 Basic in the USA. It can also be purchased via a download both for about £15.00 or $30.00

Below is from an earlier posting I did.

Yes the Quicken 2007 Basic ver from the USA works perfectly here, and converts the data file I have been running from 1998 perfectly.

Prior to getting this software I emailed Intuit and they told me it would work fine except for connection to the banks - this will not work in the UK

Apart from this every thing works PERFECTLY. The version I bought was Ver 2 and you need to download the update patch to take it to version 4.

It is a mulit-currency version with most currencies in the world being supported, and a bit of setting up is needed on this front to get to the PERFECT I described above.

I hope this helps the UK users who feel left on the shelf with an older version that needs upgrading.

Mike your experience is most fortunate, I was going to try it myself but see the Quicken forum discussion on

formatting link
see why. There appears to be a lot of doubt that the US version can convert the Quicken UK files for say updating Quicken 2000. Can you give some more details re the file conversion from an older version of UK Quicken to US Quicken v.4, this is what most long term users would like to do so that they can retain all the accumulated data from say

1998 or 2000.

Hi Brian

My Quicken was originally purchased in 98 (Quicken98) and was updated by Quicken for the year 2000 compatibility. I do not do year ends as I want all my data available to do comparisons etc.

When I installed Quicken 2007 which was bought in America (Orlando), it first said it had to remove the old version of Quicken (98), then it installed itself.

I then imported my "data", the program told me it had to convert it to the new format which it did effortlessly, informing me all the way as it did it, and then worked perfectly except the amounts were in $ not £. I then went into options and selected multicurrency, did a few tweaks and it works perfectly as if it was a UK version. I then did an online update as my disk was ver 2 and it updated to ver 4.

So easy no problems. I know this sound so easy, and I have seen the posts your link goes to but I can only tell you about my experience - I hope it help you.

Thanks for the advice Mike,

I'm currently running Quicken 2002 Deluxe which, like yours, started life ( as OEM supplied software ) in 1997 or thereabouts, via the Y2K update from Quicken themselves.

Since this thread is so specifically focussed on Quicken in the UK, can anyone clarify:

a) what was the final Quicken relase that was intended for the UK market ( I'm assuming it was later than Q2002 ),

b) would I need to obtain ( ha ! ) a copy of this version and upgrade to it first before making the jump to US Q2007 ( I seem to remember something being published about changes in data formats and consequent problems with compatibility between versions )

Regards,

Nick, Wales

That I can't answer I'm afraid, I'm still on 2002 Deluxe as well.

How did you do this, as there only allow you to purchase online if you are from the USA or Canada?

Nick, The last UK version was Quicken XG 2004. This used to be on annual renewal (unlike versions prior to XG). When Quicken exited the UK they provided users with an unlocked version on CD that never expires. I am still using this without any problems - it even still dowloads a good range of share and unit trust prices.

I use it for a combination of:

Personal money management: works very well and links to my bank account, which is one of the most useful timesaving features for me. I wouldn't want any package that didn't make downloading and checking off my bank statements easy.

Investment management: Works mostly very well, but there are a few bugs with capital gains calculations that can catch you, whcih is a pain when it comes to doing the tax return, but I can live with that for the ease of managing my cash and investments within the same package.

The main reason I don't change to anything else is that I have a load of historical data - especially on the investment side, that I don't want to lose. However, I guess there will come a point sometime when it isn't possible to continue with an old, unsupported product.

I used to use Quicken for my small business accounts. Q2002 Deluxe worked very well for me, but they broke VAT handling and introduced a host of other bugs in the upgrade to XG 2004 and weren't interested in fixing them. I felt that I couldn't stick with Q2002, or anything that wasn't supported in the long term for business, so bit the bullet and moved that side to Quickbooks, which probably does more than I need, but has worked perfectly.

Hope that helps
