Hi R.C.,
I hadn't really looked at the investment registers, as this time of year I'm updating my budget and guestimating my taxes using TaxAct's preview version. But after reading your post, I checked 'em out, and sure enough, I see the same bug. It would be nice if all that extra space in the shares column was in the security column ... or at least have Quicken save modified column widths! As you say, this will likely come in an early update.
IIRC, last year when I installed QP2011, Quicken immediately updated to R2 as well. Not surprising, as they've got to start manufacturing CDs a while prior to the release date.
I pre-ordered my copy of QD2012 at Amazon for $44.95, so I had it on release day. (I can't wait either!) Full price at Staples put me off. :-) Based on your previous comments regarding Premier vs. Deluxe, I downgraded to Deluxe this year. At first it was a shock to be missing those extra investment screens, but after a few days I don't miss them and now realize they weren't of much use to me. I also liked saving ~$25 dollars while still getting my yearly Quicken refresh fix and supporting the application. ;-)
I'd also like to be able to print my budget ... or at least be able to have my annual budget report and the advanced budget displayed side-by-side on the screen. As it stands, I can have both open, but I have to repeatedly minimize and switch the windows. I could do screen snaps, but that's not an improvement over just switching windows.
A budget wish: I'd like to be able to add a specific amount for a given month and then "fill right fields" from a context menu instead of having to manually enter the specific amount in the remaining months. ... Or at least have move the cursor to the next month *and select the existing amount* so I can easily paste a copied amount. Right now moves to the next month's field and momentarily selects the existing amount only to immediately deselect it, so I have to manually select it or use the drop-down calculator. For several budget items, I have one monthly amount for half the year and a different monthly amount for the remaining year. And even for those items where I might have a specific amount for only a few months, Q's not selecting the existing amount means I have to use the mouse instead of just a few keystrokes. Oh well.
I see Q2012 as a minor update, but the budget has needed improvement for a while now, and I find Q's improvements very welcome. Perhaps next year Intuit will update the tired loans module. ;-)
Regards,
Margaret
