Slight Discrepancy Between Quicken and Online Accounts

I have a very small discrepancy between what Quicken says is my total number of shares of a T Rowe Price mutual fund, and what I actually have (we're only talking about a few thousandsths of a share, here). What's odd is that, when I go to the mutual fund's web site, my account there is correct, and not the same as what Quicken says it is. I had figured that whatever shows up on the web site is also what Quicken is going to think my actual holdings are.

As it's such a small difference (a matter of a few pennies), it's obviously not important, but I wondered why this was happening, and whether these discrepancies are common or rare. T Rowe Price is the only case where I've seen a discrepancy, among my own holdings. I've been tempted not to even check whether Quicken has downloaded the correct amounts when I get paper statements in the mail, but now I feel obliged to check to make sure it's not bringing in significantly faulty information.

Sounds like 'rounding error'. When it bugs me I adjust the latest divenend to make Quicken agree with Price. JPS

I don't believe it's uncommon for an investment company to download holdings rounded differently than what appears on their web site, or on their printed statements. I have that with a couple of fi's. I have seen discrepancies worse than that: Fidelity's downloaded holdings don't show me holding any shares of the MM fund I own there ... even though the transactions they download dutifully record the dividends the MM fund issues.

You can easily see the holdings that Quicken received from the fi, in the Online Center on the Holdings tab for the specific fi.

You can double check the Quicken holdings in the Online Center by "Saving" your OFXlog from the most recent download, and using Notepad to see what holdings the financial institution sent (you can see the same thing without "saving" the log to a .TXT file, but it's easier to "find" things in Notepad than by scrolling thru the log in Quicken).

I tried that, but Quicken then puts in a placeholder for those few thousandths of a share to make the total come to what Quicken thinks it ought to be, which isn't what it actually is. I don't know if there's any way to convince Quicken that their total is not correct.
