Stock/bond share exchanges/swaps (YES, one more time, I know)

[Using Q 06D Rel 4, on Win2000Pro SP4 and all updates]

I know I should have set that exchange/swap thread aside as I imagined some were coming up/had come up....

ISSUE:

1) An exchange of some bond units occured in '05.

2) FI statement for the peiord shows an Exchange of X number of Y bonds for the SAME number of the same bond. Can't recall at this time what differences, if any, there were between the two lots.

3) FI download at the time shows as SOLD the first lot and on the same day BOUGHT the replacement lot.

4) Quicken data imported into TurboTax shows the "sale" of the X number of Y bonds reflected in Schedule D.

5) FI's 1099-whatever does not show the "sale" as it was an exchange.

QUESTION: How to represent an exchange or swap in Quicken??

P.S. I know this or some flavor of this has been discussed before.

THANKS for indulging me on this.

Jay .

As far as I can tell, your options are as follows:

  1. If you really exchanged X units of Y bond for the same number of the same bond, then nothing happened. Just delete the transactions.

  1. If you exchanged X units of Y for X units of Z, you could simply rename the bond security, and delete the transactions.

  2. If you exchanges X units of Y for A units of B, you can delete the old transactions, then enter a corporate spin-off. You will find this generates an ROC for X and a buy of B.
