Unidentified Security ?

May 18, 2007 1 Replies

I have Q07 premier. My brokerage TD Ameritrade just changed account numbers to both investment and IRA. New numbering system for them. My One Step down load stop working etc.. I finally called and they explained the problem. I had to do the online remove from one step, update account number and reactivate. And it worked.

The problem is it downloaded all the historic transactions which i was told to delete if they were already in the there.

Here's the problem - the MoneyMarket Fund "TDAM US GOVERNMENT" (which is a sweep fund) is there with many enteries over the years. When I do an online center "Compare to Portfolio" I get "Unidentified Security" with zero shares and the TDAM with shares and its puting two place holder one with a negative numbe and one with a positive. Same exact amount number.

How do I make Quicken know the Unidentified Security is the TDAM US Government and remove the placeholders?

I think there are two separate issues.

You don't have to - and in my opinion, you should not - accept placeholders. Just because the downloaded holdings do not match what you have in Quicken, is not cause to accept any placeholders. I have a couple of fi's who do not download holdings correctly; I ignore offers to accept placeholders to "correct" the non-problem (my Quicken holdings are correct, the downloaded holdings are not).

In recent months, I have read about this "unidentified security" several times; before that, I don't think I ever heard of such a thing. I haven't figured out just what is going on yet, so I'm not sure if there is a solution, or workaround, or what.

But the first thing I would do is: select the known security in your Security List, click Edit, and uncheck the box, "matched wirh online security". Hopefully, next time you download from that fi, Quicken will offer you the opportunity to match the downloaded security to your Quicken security. If that doesn't happen, or it doesn't eliminate the apparent discrepancy in holdings, I suspect your fi is downloading the holdings incorrectly.
