California mailed 2009 refund instead of direct depositing as instructed. Anyone else?

Subject line pretty much says it all. Routing and account information is correct, same as last year, same as used for Federal return, and the Fed's managed to deposit the 2009 refund into the account. I've talked to 2 people today who tell the same story.

I suspect the State of California is squeezing every penny until it screams, including using the mail (mail transit time, float time) to delay spending their cash.

Anyone else noticed this?

No, I haven't mailed my return but am due a return. Be happy you didn't get an IOU!

Not for 2009, but I have noted this in past years. They also sent a BS letter indicating that the bank info was wrong, yet the IRS had no problem using the same info to make their direct deposits. I find that when I challenge their letter (whether for a client or myself; it's happened to me too), the next year, they seem not to have a problem....

The FTB is not competent.

I got an "IOU" here in the great State of Alabama. Our income taxes go into and are used to fund the state education trust fund. Income taxes go in, approved education expenses go out. Until there are enough returns filed by those that owe to cover those expenses, none of us that are "due" get our refunds.

Looks like I'll be adjusting my withholding election for the 3rd time in 4 years.

Either that, or they are altogether TOO competent. Maybe they really are working the float.

Ha! Wouldn't you know it... My check came in the mail on Saturday. About two months after filing.

I, too, requested direct deposit and the fed seemed to have no problem following directions. Apparently Cali isn't the only incompetent State in the Union.
