Anyone else bank with NatWest?

3.35pm yesterday. Paid in 151.25 in cheques and 100 in cash. Paid in over the counter. Didn't get a receipt (didn't ask for one), but signed a deposit form.

Nothing at all in my account this morning. I was under the impression cash credits appear immediately, even after the 3.30pm deadline.

Phoned them up, and they say it's not the case. It will appear in my account tomorrow. (Wednesday)

I'm not so sure. I can swear I've put cash in before after 3.30pm and it's appeared immediately. If I do a transaction on internet or phone banking to my wife's account or back to mine, even on a Sunday (!!), it goes through straight away.

Are they havin' a laugh? Should I go down there? I've a 100 cheque going out of my account tomorrow, and I'm sure they are trying to stall my payment so I go overdrawn. Nice 35 charge for them, then! It's not the first time they've done that either!

They generally do, but yours was not a cash deposit, but a mixed one.

If you pay in cash and cheques together, the cash is delayed and will "hit" the account at the same time as the cheques. This is because your statement will show a single credit of £251.25 instead of two separate ones.

What you should have done, had you wanted the cash to go through faster, is paid them in separately, using two deposit forms.

I wondered then if there was an unusual honesty in their advertising ;-)
