IRS refund cycle chart

Jan 17, 2008 9 Replies

The chart says that people who e-file by January 17th (and the return is accespted by the IRS by that date) will receive their direct deposit by

1/25. I am hearing rumors that even for taxpayers not affected by the AMT updates the refunds all will be delayed until 2/1. Anyone?

All of my returns have been accepted with e-mails advising me that client refunds would be deposited to their accounts on January 25.

Really? Funny, but IRS doesn't send me emails to the same effect. Why do you get them?

Are electronic filings processed through district offices, or all through the same place?

Okay, here's the skinny on efiling. (as an aside, I already knew why John was getting emails.)

Two ways to go.

  1. Via a third party, i.e. the software provider who acts as a wholesaler, receiving returns from it's customers and batching those batches and efiling with IRS. In a case like that, as probably with John Fisher above, the middle man might send email to the ERO>

  1. Direct filing with the IRS. Example, I file most all my returns with either Philadelphia or Austin, depending on residence of taxpayer. IRS therefore sends me directly the ACK (acknowledgement) file.

All filings, whether via third party or direct from some of us, go to designated service centers (i.e. "campuses") depending on residence of client.

The new IRS CADE system must be working. Some tax prep locations are reporting IRS bank deposits today (1/17) for returns e-filed 1/11 and

1/12. Way ahead of the refund cycle charts. I know last year I saw a limited number funded in 4 days and not according the the IRS charts. IRS keeps saying this will be the system of the future.

Correct. Direct deposit refunds have begun going out for CADE-processed returns.

CORRECT!!=:) Often, I'm provided with the info within a couple of hours of transmitting the returns. Each acknowledgement advises me of the refund deposit, or mailing, date.

"There is some confusion, however, caused by an IRS system error:

ATTN: Software Developers, Return Transmitters and Authorized IRS e- file Providers/EROs

We are aware of a systemic problem with the 'Where's My Refund?' application on IRS.gov causing the system to erroneously display a refund issuance date of February 12.

We are working to resolve this issue and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

Maybe you miss my point. I was saying that it seemed to me that you are an indirect filer, and as such, your information is coming from the third party used to transmit returns in connection with RAL's.

Since I file directly with IRS, their acknowledgements only do just that, confirm receipt of the return that show x dollars balance due or refund reQUESTED.

And yes, IRS sent me that message this afternoon, too.
