Buildings insurance

Hi everybody, we are in the process of selling our house but due to the circumstances we already had to move out. This seems to be a problem for our buildings insurance. I was told (stupid me, I phoned the current insurer about this) the house would only be insured a maximum of 30 days after we moved out. Now it seems that the process will take a few days longer than that (perhaps up to two weeks). I already tried to find an insurer who would make the deal, but that's really difficult. Either they don't want to insure an empty house, or it will cost a fortune, or the minimum insurance period are several months. Anybody have any recommendations? Many thanks in advance! PMN.

Whats wrong with asking existing insurers to extend for further two weeks?

As I said, they don't want to do that because the building has been empty for more than 30 days. :-( PMN.

But doesn't "empty" in this context just mean "unoccupied and unvisited"? Provided you go back every now and then to make sure it hasn't been flooded or something, doesn't the 30 day clock get restarted at each visit?

Move back in - or get someone to stay there.

That is probably right, and a possibility. Just a bit difficult because we are now living so far away that it takes the whole weekend just to get there and back. PNM.

Moving back in is impossible (that's why we moved out before completing the sale). But I have thought about the second suggestion as well. I just wanted to explore the possibilities of a different insurance first. But thanks! PMN.

Get a friendly neighbour to pop in once or twice a month for a quick glance?
