House insurance

Last year my premium was about £290 with Direct Line for buildings and

contents - £130,000 rebuilding costs (I've never known how to work this out) and £35,000 contents. Thinking this was getting a bit high, I priced stuff on the internet and when I Iogged on to Direct Line the quote was £104, covering up to £1,000,000 re-building costs and £35,000 contents. So, I looked at the online policy and it's exactly what I've already got. And since I had to phone them about some specific details, they happily cancelled renewal of my £290 policy and

are issuing a new policy with exactly the same cover, for £104.

You take the square meter floor area of your property and multiply it by a factor. Some of the insurers have tables on their web sites.

I really MUST get around to changing mine. Did you look at anybody else ? Have you ever made a claim - are they any good ?

Haven't had occasion t claim under household cover. I have car insurance and car breakdown with them , and they've dealt with claims under these very efficiently.

I could find plenty quotes from other companies which were less than £290. I doubt I would have trusted any other company which quoted less than £104. Only took it because it was a special 'introductory' offer from a company I already knew.
