How much C/Card information to give?

Question for the group:

When you order something over the phone (say, a pizza) how much of you card information should you give out. You clearly have to give the card number, card type and expiry date, but is everybody in the group happy to gie the 3 digit security code?

If you have this, why cant the person on the phone clone the card, order anything they want over the internet etc?

Thanks

jaffa

That's what it's for.

They can. That's why a lot of merchants will only deliver to the registered address.

Precisely. Not giving it would be like getting soaked in the rain 'cos you were keeping your umbrella for emergencies ;-)

That said, I do always refuse to give out the start date, on the grounds that it's not needed (at least with a Visa or Mastercard credit card) and I don't like the increasingly acquisitive nature of many organisations I deal with as regards personal info. It's often asked for, though and I usually get quite an argument when I refuse.

Never really thought about that. I suppose I'm making a point.
