P.O. Box and phone

Hello,

Sorry it's not finance question, but I think it's related.

We have non-UK company. We would like to have a virtual presence in UK. We need P.O. Box. Is it possible for non-UK resident to open a P.O. Box in UK (London)? Could we use Royal mail or whatever for that purpose? What we need: P.O. Box or Street Address which automatically forwards mail to our home address.

The same for phone: UK phone number that is redirected to our home or auto-responder.

Which services can we use for that purpose?

Not sure really but might be best to post in uk.telecom about the phone number.

The post office will forward, for a fee, mail addressed to any UK address to any other address.

Alternately you can get an answering service set up to answer the phone and forward mail instead. These are the places you often see the Watchdog team knocking on the door. There are lots of them.

John,

Thank you for pointing to uk.telecom.

But my primary concern was mail address. Do you know in which newsgroup can I aslo ask about mailing address? I could not find uk.laywer or something like this.

Are you sure you meant addressed to *any* UK address? Last time I set one of these up, I needed to prove that I lived at the previous address (eg providing copy of utility bill etc with name+address shown).

Otherwise, I suppose, I could find out your address then have all your mail delivered to my house ... would you be happy? :-(

Oficially no. To have a PO box you must have a real UK address linked to it. This address will not be kept secret by the PO, they will tell it to anybody who asks (it is a requirement that they do so). You could have a 'friend' set up the PO box for you, and if you don't have a suitable person to act for you, there are many who will do so for a fee.

As in to your foriegn address? No chance, you can either choose to collect from the 'box' or have it redirected to the real address, you cannot redirect to a third party. Though you could just set up a normal 'redirect' but there is a time limit of IIRC two years for which they will do this, there is a surcharge for redirects to overseas addresses but I don't know how they collect this?

What you need is a paid for secretarial service. Comes in at around 15 GBP per week, plus postage at cost, plus a surcharge.

I think that this is much easier. Even companies with a physical UK presence have their phone lines redirected to overseas call centres.
