Wrong amount credited to my account

Last week I paid a cheque into my account for 50 GBP (sent in by post), a few days later a credit appeared in my current account for 500 pounds. I rang the bank and asked them what the credit was for and they told me it was for a cheque that I had just sent them by post. I explained that I think an error had been made by them and the reply was to send a secure message (online banking) informing them of this. I have since sent a additional three secure messages providing further information - sufficient I believe to allow them to follow this up with National Savings (it was a 50 quid on the PBs) and the bank still keeps on getting back to me for more info.

As far as I'm concerned - I have pointed out their mistake and provided sufficient information for them to rectify it.

Any advice?

Wait a bit longer and leave at £450 showing in your account.

Are you sure you didn't misread the cheque before you posted it to them. Perhaps it really was for £500.

Hi Robert this point entered my head too, so I went to the National Savings Website and entered my holders number. That too concurred that I had won 50 quid this July so I very much doubt it that I had mistaken the 50 for a 500. Thanks for your reply anyway.
