Tax Cut

Last year, you could download it for free. I tried looking around for it but couldn't find the 2007 edition. Maybe they decided that business model wasn't working too well... ;-)

Also, if you can bear the interface, TaxAct is free and also includes free efile. As my father-in-law often says, "If it's free, I'll take two."

I have been experimenting with TaxCut and TaxAct the last few days. So far I think TaxAct is easier to navigate.

Yeah, I liked that.

I checked as well. Maybe later. I'd always used TaxCut in the past, waiting until late in the season when the office stores dropped the price to the rebate level. Free download was even better.

I don't bother with state, because MO has a PDF form that you can cut and paste few lines you need into, and it does the rest.

I'd use it if it could import previous year TaxCut fomrs, but I don't think it can.

I wasn't referring to the online version. TaxCut provided a free download of the Basic Federal software.

I couldn't resist the bargain and so I bought it and tried it out. (it was raining last Sunday). It gave me the same answer as the home made Excel spread sheet that I use as a prelude to pen and ink filing. Note that efiling, and state returns cost extra.

It is easier to use than Tax-Wise, the software that the IRS provides to volunteers who do VITA/TCE under the AARP program

Is it 2007 or 2006? Last years has a number of differences and wont calculate 2007 automatically.

tax cut 2007 (premium/deduction pro) seems to be available as a torrent (sharing) so you can try downloading it if you want to.

i purchased the turbo tax premier 2007 for about $30 on ebay. if you are lucky, there might be some expiring bids with a very low bid price. if you catch one at the right time, the cheaper it is if you win the bid.

"sharing" is an odd word for "pirating".

"at your own risk" is a euphemism here, too.

As far as I know, neither H&R Block (makers of TaxCut) nor Intuit are making legal copies of their software available via the torrent networks.

Both of them sell their software online such that once purchased, you may download the software rather than waiting for a CD to arrive in the mail.

But, while there are a few legit software distributed by torrent (various linux distributions and some large packages like OpenOffice come to mind) - the vast majority of things available via torrent are pirated and thus illegal.

I took a quick look and found no evidence of legal access to TaxCut via torrent. If I'm wrong, I hope someone will correct me. But if I'm right, I highly recommend that folks avoid this route for getting this software.

I'm not promoting nor encouraging you to download 'pirated' software via the torrents. But it is useful to know that the resource is there. In case you need the software of previous versions which might not be available online anymore.

You don't want to use them to download linux distributions/open office etc as there are already very fast sites on the web that offer them.

like i said, i prefer to go the ebay route if you want these products at a lower cost.
