Backorder items with Store Credit

Whenever I try to backorder a item with a customer that has a store credit with us, I get an error saying that the purchase amount cannot exceed the tender specified.

Can I make a backorder with a store credit, or does it have to be money taken in?

How do I get around this?

Thanks, Nick

It sounds like you might have the option for no over tendering on credit. To get around this you can either 1. Uncheck this in tender types 2. Simply type in the correct amount for the backordered item.

Hi,

I have a question for Nick. How do you issue a store credit. There is a return option on the POS, but no tender type for store credit... What did you do to issue a return for credit and how to keep track of customer info for the accont when they redeem the particular store credit?..

Thanks, Kay

I'm not Nick but to issue a store credit you have to set it up as a tender type. We do ours like gift certificates. We do not track our customers with this. We make them responsible for keeping up with the certificate of return.

I believe you can establish a voucher that will keep track of the dollar amount available but I am not sure it will associate the voucher to the customer.

Hi Elizabeth,

I found a way to issue the gift certificate as you did. If you "set customer" first, and issue the certificate, a customer account exists for you to track activities. The problem to that is it that credit amount, debit amount and balance don't seem to necessarily tie together. The dynamic of the software is great, but it is too easy to alter an account/transaction, wide open for employee theft. This is a very big problem.

Voucher needs to be sold first before it is redeemed. There is no cash/charge in, and item returned can't be returned to inventory correctly.

Last but not least, thermal paper gets destroyed. Customer can't keep credit memo too long unless a credit card is issued, but then, how do you know the balance if the system doesn't track.

Perhaps I need to learn more, but I th> I'm not Nick but to issue a store credit you have to set it up as a tender

Kay I understand everything you're addressing. One quick note, our customers have actually retained their gift certificates for average 2 years. I had one come in the other day that had been outstanding for three years. So my point is, if you do find a way to do it that way make an expiration date to help save yourself the long time frame it might be out.
