On the New Item Wizard, is there a way to make the same inventory matrix appear for a Department or Category?

Can you restate that question? Are you trying to copy all items from one department into another or are you trying to do something with Matrix Items?

The matrix structure for 800+ items is repetative. If the matrix were to have a template that would fill in the info for the 3 dimensions, this would be helpful. Ignore the Dept and Category. At the time I wrote that I was looking for an association with either the Dept or Category. At the momemt , I am using a keyboard-macro to fill in the Styles, Color, Size for these items.

Is there a better way?

Contact either Retail Realm or RMS Store, they both have Matrix tools that will allow you to create, modify and delete Matrix items very quickly.

Or wait until 2.0 comes out with enhanced Matrix functionality.

If you are wanting to import Matrix items it is very combersome and not the best option. Use the above tools and get much better results. If you are wanting to import Standard items, there are many options that are discussed regularly on the NG. Do a search on 'Import' and you will find what you are looking for.
