Entering data

Hi, I'm entering quite a large inventory list from another POS and trying to find a faster way.

  1. New item wizard does not allow creating vendor record as I enter new items. The drop box took too many steps to get to vendor list. Is there a short cut?

  1. Matrix requires entering the dimensions and attributes for each item. I understand there is an option to establish matrix code for sizes and colors (for apparel), but I can't seem to pull up the code in New Item wizard.

  2. Is there a way to add a color or a size to a matrix after the new item has been created. I understand it cannot be deleted if it is tied to inventory, but can we add? If yes, how.

Should I enter everything through order instead. What would you recommend to avoid repetitions? I have mostly clothes with a few similar size ranges and various colors in a two dimensional matrix. I have several hundred items to enter, unfortunately.

Your suggestion is appreciated.

Kay,

  1. There is an import utility for RMS Store Operations. So long as your new items are in a.csv file (Excel .csv format), you can use the import utility. Contact your partner and ask them for it.

  1. Go to Item then, highlight the main matrix item and click the properties. You should be able to pull the data you need from the main properties of the main matrix item.

  2. Refer to step #2. You can edit the dimensions for your matrices in the properties of the main matrix item.

Hope this helps.

Hi Rizza,

Thanks for your tips.

Unfortunately, my "partner" could only help with the basic, hardware interface. I did not buy from a local "consultant" because the quote was too high. I just need to smooth out some basic interface complications.

I pulled my data from another POS software and saved in excel delimited format then covert into normal excel format. I can pull any column I want from the report feature but I'm not sure the formats are compatible since the matrix in the MS RMS seems structurally different.

I'm typing every in manually. The annoy part is that I have to create a list of vendors before creating new items and as mentioned, I have to key in "size", "color" for each matrix.

I can't quite understand the import > Kay,

Kay,

I want to help you. I wonder how I can send you the template? I can probably give you a format here but since you don't have the import utility it would be useless. You can send me your email add.

Hi Rizza,

Thanks for your help. I did see an "import" option, but it seems to import another version of file of MS program. I am switching from a very different POS system.

I've been busy entering data, just got about 90% done. With the vendor's help, I also installed the Epson TM printer and the Zebra. These are the two most critical points that caused lots of problems in many programs I encountered so far!...

Anyway, I'm still having problem getting the zebra printer to print right using the thermal hang tag.

My inventory has tags and barcodes generated by the old POS, am tempting to find ways to scan them in without printing new tags, but afraid these barcodes might overlap with the random barcode generater in the future. What's the chance this might happen with the RMS?...

If this can be done. It'll save me lots of time!.... Thanks for any tip.

P.S.

I just remember that I had bought the AML 5000, portable barcode reader, but I didn't have time to learn to use it for inventory because my old system's database corrupted too often....

Anyway, it would save lots of time if I can scan everything and import the file. Again, I don't think this can be done because my existing tags have different barcodes compared to those generated by the RMS.

I possibly can scan each item directly the "properties" of each item in the RMS if a second SKU is allowed!...How?......

See the "Alias" tab on Item Properties.

Thanks,

I also received Rizza's file, but my email server purged the Exec file for some reason. Since I've entered my inventory, I'm trying to print new tags, still sorting out problem with the Zebra printer and drawer.

I tried to add cashier and security > See the "Alias" tab on Item Properties.
