We have three computers networked, using RMS, running XP Pro. The front computer is our main POS terminal and it also hosts the RMS database. We point the other two computers to this one for all reports and receipts. I'm going to swap out this main computer with a newer machine (also running XP Pro). Any pointers for how this computer should be set up so we don't have to re-do all of the receipt and report pointing and networking from the other two computers? If I give the new computer the exact same name and register number as the one it's replacing and if I plug it into the same router jack, is it likely I will be okay, or will I have to go through and re-do all the receipt and report pointing? Also, once I import the database, do have to re-enter all of the EDC information. If I do have to re-enter the EDC information, is there any easy way to do that other than typing it all in?

Can't have two computers on the network with the same name, so give the new comp. the existing name. re-name the old one something else. Transfer any modified forms to the new box. Also change the reg # on the old machine.
As far as EDC if your using on-board (RMS) this info is in the database. If your using a payment server (ie: PCcharge, ICverify) this needs to be transferred as well.
The EDC transactions are in the database, but the EDC SETUP is in the registry...

Glenn, Any way to transfer or copy the registry? We are using RMS for the EDC, we switched from PCCharge last year (best thing we ever did - we've only locked up one time in the 8 months since changing, versus a couple of times a week when we were using PCCharge). I'm planning on just pulling the old machine out of the loop and having it as a backup that's all ready to swap out if new computer ever goes down. I've always thought it would be nice to have a backup computer that we know is all set to go if needed (the only thing we'd need to update is the database).
It only takes about 5 min (if that long) to go into Store Ops Admin and do the 2 screens necessary for EDC registry entries. I'd do a simple print screen of the panels on the old machine and use that as the guide for setting up the new one.
I'd agree with that. Just wanted to point out that the configuration is not portable through the database. I doubt there are very many folks that can easily put their hands on the EDC setup sheet once they are done with it the first time:)
