Credit Card Processing Hang Up's?

I have 3 computers running RMS 2.0 two of the registers, and the back office is just the database/Manager. Using the two registers we process credit cards through Mercury, and just as of late I started to have issues with transactions hanging on for a long time (5+ minutes) before they go through...a lot of the times when a transaction hangs we usually shut down and re-boot, and process the transaction using a counter Credit Card processing machine. Any ideas as to why they Credit machine might be having hanging ups? We are connected to the internet using Cable...if that helps!

Sorry nothing that is real helpful...we have tried various things, but nothings has really helped...thankfully it's not happening that much once a day or so...still unacceptable, but what can you do?

I also have this problem with a customer. Just the 1st CC transaction of the day takes about 5 mins. I'd be interested in the resolution.

Transactions usually hang because the system doesn't get the response from the server. Are your transactions getting duplicated when this happens? If they are, it's probably an internet problem where RMS doesn't get the response back. If the transaction isn't processing at all when it hangs, something is being sent corrupted and the Mercury servers aren't even getting the transaction. The intermittant nature of the problem suggests a spotty internet connection, and the response isn't being received. As for Erich, I would check to make sure you are connected when you run your first transaction. RMS may be waiting for your computer to establish a connection on the first transaction, causing it to take forever on the first transaction. Then your subsequent transactions process just fine, because the handshakes establishing your internet connectivity have already been resolved. I would say that in your case I would check your local network settings i.e. your router settings.
