Do I buy now or wait ?

I need to upgrade my epos system as the current system is performing poorly ! I'm in the process of evaluating RMS but have few concerns.....

Firstly I hear a new version is in development, and is due out early next year. Does anyone know what features this will add ?

Secondly is the integration between back end accounts and RMS. As far as I can tell reading posts in this newsgroup there is no 100% intergration into an accounting app. The best seams to be quickbooks, but still not fully there (and I'm from the uk and some reports it only integrates into the us version ?). Would be cool if the new version would link into MS Small Business Finiacials.

Therefore my question is :- Should I keep going with my current system untill RMS V2 is released or should I change over now and upgrade when its released in 2006. Also does anyone have any experiance with integration ?

Thankyou

I currently own RMS and would also like to know the answer to your question Paul. I have not received an upgrade to RMS in a very long time and Microsoft doesn't seem to want to tell us anything about what is in the next release or about when we can expect this next release to come out. I bought Microsoft's SBF and RMS because I expected them to integrate it, but not a word about integration of SBF and RMS. You know I read all of these news stories that microsoft post about these new great technologies but have not heard a word about these technologies being added into SBF or RMS. It is so frustrating as a retailer to own software from a company that you expect to keep up and to integrate your systems and you pay support to get upgrades to rms, but then don't receive a thing for more than a year.

I just wish > I need to upgrade my epos system as the current system is performing poorly !

I was told from a partner it would be shipping 1st quarter 2006, were a single small shop and can't aford to make a wrong purchase choice on what is a relativly expensive outlay. It would be nice to hear from a MS representative on what the integration features would be like between RMS and SBFs.

Don't get me wrong, from what I have seen MS's solution currently looks the best out there for me.

But the question remains :- do I buy or wait !?

That's a tough question. The transition from one system to another will take time no matter what. Whether you spend that time now or later is up to you. I'm sure once they do release a new version of RMS, there will be a prescribed upgrade path to make the transition as easy and possible. And I don't imagine that the user interface would have such a dramatic change that you have to re-train all the users.

The real question is if it's worth enduring the problems of your current system until they release a new version. It could be 9 months, or maybe longer. MS has a habit of pushing their release dates back (look at CRM, SQL, Axapta), but usually for good reason. Everyone complains that they keep moving their dates, but everyone will complain more if they release a product prematurely. I'd rather wait a bit longer and see a better product released.

Thanks Jason, I agree I would rather wait than have an unstable product. I think I will hold on untill a feature list is released for the new version, then I can make a more informed decision.

Anyone know whats new in the next release ?
