I have a client who has selected BoA as their Merchant Service Provider. This client has 1 store with 4 pos and will be using Windows Server Standard 2003. BoA is telling the client and us that they need to have 4 separate Merchant Terminal ID Numbers (one for each POS) in order to track and troubleshoot for each terminal. What is the recommended way to set this up? Can we have the same Terminal ID number for each computer?

I would not recommend setting up a seperate merchant number at each terminal. When you attempt to settle the batch it will settle all credit card transactions, regardless of the authorizing merchant number, to the merchant number configured on the first register you try to settle from. This is becuase RMS does not seperate the merchant numbers in the database tables when you settle the batch, it will dump them all into one merchant account.
You should have no problems setting up different Terminal ID's on each register, but you should test this and verify the batch with the bank first.
I have had customers request seperate merchant numbers per register and have had to create customized scripts for each register that run at the time of settlement. These scripts seperate out the credit card transactions authorized by each merchant number so they do not get settled together.
