Invalid Database

I am running a small network (3-5 clients) with 1 POS lane. Each of the other computers has the RMS software installed. The master database is located ont the same computer that runs the POS. Here's the problem: When I test the database conncetion through Administrator Config. on any other computer, it says "Connection to the database is made but the database appears to be blank or not a valid Store Operations database." I don't understand how the database could be invalid if the POS is able to run from it. Secondly: When I try to open Store Operations Manager, it will either time-out or tell me that it could not connect to the database (even if Administrator is connected to the dtabase). Can someone give me a direction to go with this? My "partner" is not much help and I've no experience with SQL or XML. Thanks for any help.

Administrator | Database | Check

Check into SVRNETCN (\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn) if tcp/ip and named pipe are enabled, and that not run a firewall into your computer..

Hello Andrew,

My guess is your workstations are not connecting to the RMS database on your server. Instead they are connecting to a blank database you have created at the workstation.

On the RMS server (your POS station) the server name should be "(local)" but on the workstations it should be the name of the server or the IP address. To find out the name of the server, double-click on the MSDE Service Manager icon in the System Tray running on your POS station (little PC with green arrow).

Also make sure you have a register defined for each workstation and the tab labeled Register under Store Operations Administrator, File, Configuration has a different register ID for each PC on the network, starting with 1 for your POS station/server. To add more registers go to Manager, Databases, Registers.

Even though you have a single POS lane license, you'll need to define a register number for each additional workstation. You can also run POS on those stations as long as it is not currently running on another station. This allows you to use POS on any workstaton after-hours if your main POS station is not running RMS.
