Gift "certificate" , ideas?

Create a non-inventory item called trade in value or whatever, with no price set, and have it set to enter price at POS. When you issue the voucher bring up that item and put in the amount as a negative in the same amount of the voucher. If you want you can create a separate department for that item. Craig

I use a serialized, bar coded business card. Put them in as a gift card/voucher. Tell customer it is as good as cash so don't lose it!

your other optin is NOT to use the Gift Voucher to keep track of credit. Instaed create a Custmer Profile with Credit of ZERO. And when an item is returned charge the credit to his account (use tender payment - payment on account). Now this credit is available at your store and this customer can use it any time he or she wants. If you have HQ and multiple store the credit is available at all stores.

You're right Afshin, that's actually the way we do it. But his question was how to get value on the Gift Card without taking in any money. I can see pros and cons in both ways to do it. Of course the card idea is going to cost a little money on the cards, but the customer has a physical item to remind him to come back to the store. The credit to account doesn't cost any money, but is harder for the customer to remember about. You can report on both ways. It just comes down to which way you're more comfortable with. Craig
