creating/redeeming vouchers and gift certificates

Here's my question/situation.

We create our own paper gift certificates in our single location store. These gift certificates are sold at whatever value the customer requests, and each paper gift certificate is numbered, and has a 1 year expiration date.

So I here RMS can create a voucher that we can use to serialize these gift certificates and keep track of their value, etc

In a perfect world I'd like to be able to ring a PLU for gift certificates, add the retail value, and note the serial number.

When the gift certificate is redeemed I'd like to be asked the value and the serial number of the certificate (as a voucher)

Does this exist, and if so how do I make it happen?

AND I DO NOT WANT TO USE MERCURY OR ANOTHER 3rd PARTY, THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Dear Cheese,

Yes as you said it is exists, and how basically it work please see below quidelines:

Vouchers can include gift certificates and gift cards. A gift card acts like a debit card. Customers can pre-pay a certain amount towards the gift card and redeem it with whatever value the card is.

Before you use the gift voucher/card you must create first one tender type called voucher and one PLU with type voucher. this way you can seel and redeem voucher at POS. you have also facility to transfer funds from one voucher to another or new voucher.

Voucher system works exactly as serialize item.

How to Sell

------------- When at the POS you wanted to sell the voucher to any customer you will ring up the SKU of voucher which you have created in manager program. Then system will ask you the Serial No (can be created on fly) and enter the value of your gift voucher and select the mode of payment from customer.

How to Redeem

------------------- Customer purchase some goods and wanted to redeem the gift voucher purchases from your store. You will scan all the customer's items then in press F12 to tender the transaction and then select the tender type "Voucher/Gift Card" which you created in Store Manager Program and system then will ask you the Serial No. Remeber system won't accept you the exceed amount it will accept you only the amount you have balance in your voucher.

Last point how do I control the expiration of card. I think it is little bit no avaiable but we can use kind of tools like QSRules.DLL to accomodate this.

If the information help you please rate.

In SOP|File|Configuration|Tender you can set the expiration period for vouchers.

I have a question on this.

How would you fix the balance if the amount on the voucher was never completely used?

For instance, someone comes in and buys a voucher/certificate for $25.00. During the year that voucher is only redeemed for $13.92. At the end of the expiration say one year. How would you adjust for $11.08, the amount never used?

This is one of the reason I haven't chosen the voucher system but I do issue serialized gift certificates.

One way ... you could setup an item called Expired Vouchers (or use any misc. item) and tender a sale for the balance of the card.
