Help - Losing connection to database when tendering a sale

Hi,

We have a two till setup with the master database on one of the tills. For some reason on we seem to lose connection to the database during the tendering of sales and the POS crashes. This results in losing the sales information too so hence the stock numbers become incorrect. It's a nightmare!

The network between the till's has been checked, however this problem even happens on the Till where the database resides so this is not the problem. I've also noticed that the tills run slow sometimes. There are no other processes running on the system other than the POS software.

We have a J2 touchscreen till and RMS Store Ops.....

If you have any ideas of what the problem could be...please please put us out of our misery...!

thks...

We were seeing this issue in a couple of locations when running 1.2 with MSDE but being nowhere near the DB limit.

Curiously, when we upgraded to 2.0 and 2K5 Express we had different iterations of what are probably the same issue. We no longer have the database blowing up during transactions (okay, not blowing up but disconnecting/not found) but during lookups to the local store database. Again, this almost always happend from POS2 but SOMETIMES happens on POS1 as well.

Do let us know what version RMS and SQL you are running.

Maddening.

We've replaced cables and switches at these locations with no change... Do you guys happen to run Dell hardware? I only ask because it's one of the only correlations I can come up with between the stores that have seen this issue and those that haven't... which is to say that I'm running out of ideas, but at least we're not losing transactions now, just time.

Hi Richard-

I am having more or less the same problem that you've described at 5 separate stores. Prior to going to 2.0 our transactions were dropping frequently on POS2 (the system without the store database). The drop would occur during a transaction, usually a debit, sometimes a credit, rarely a check or cash, and close out of POS.

Mind you, we spent a lot of money on network equipment and our pings in most locations almost always show flawlessly for anybody?
