Offline database will not synchronize

Hi

I have RMS version 2.0.0125 running on three tills and two back office computers. At the start of November I had this system upgraded, by a 'professional IT company' who installed a back office server on which all the data, including the RMS database, now resides.

The server is running Windows Server 2008 Standard FE, version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2, along with SQL Server 2008.

Since the server was installed the tills will no longer synchronize normally after a Z and always produce the same error message:

"An error occurred connecting to the offline database. Synchronization could not be performed. Error # 2147467259 [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied"

I was told that the problem was due to the Norton Antivirus and so this was removed and ESET NOD32 was installed. I was told this could be configured to solve the problem - it didn't.

Since then the firewalls on the tills have been turned off, the firewall on the server has been turned off but the problem still persists. The installers appear to have run out of ideas.

The tills can be made to synchronize if they are restarted and a Z is run immediately. However, if they are used for a day as normal then they won't synchronize until they are restarted again.

The original system has been installed since 2005 and we have never had an issue with it.

Can anyone shed any light on this problem.

Here are some checks:

  1. Are you running SQL 2005 Express on your POS Computers?
  2. Was anything changed there when the upgrade was made?
  3. Can you run offline on the workstations? Test it by pulling the network cable out and start the POS application. Can you run a test transaction? If not, check to make sure that the SQL server service is running and set to automatic. Type services.msc in the Start/Run field. Check the offline configuration in Store Administrator to verify that the settings are correct.
