Offline Synch Run Time Error

When a Z-Read is done the database synchronises fine. The following day it gives a run time error when a Z-Read is done '-2147217900 (80040e14) [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).}SQL Server does not exist or access is denied.' POS then restarts and the next time Z Read is done it Synchronises fine.

So problem occurrs next time after a successful Z read then synchronisation. Then is resolved after POS restarts.

This is a store that is running 1.3.1005 - The database is on a Local network PC and on 3 Tills pointing to the database the problem is occurring.

Since this is intermittent - meaning that sometimes the offline sync runs normally and sometimes it does not - I would tend to tjhink that your configuration in SO Administrator is correct.

I know of 3 reasons that you might get that error upon running the z-report: 1) the connection information is incorrect - since it sometimes works, this is not likely. 2) the offline database is not started - the RMS installer will auto configure MSDE to start when windows starts up; if you already had MSDE or SQL Express installed, it may be configured to requrire a manual start of the service. 3) a firewall on the local machine is blocking INCOMING requests from the 'server' - when the offline sync is run, the server creates a connection to the local database and 'pushes' new data into it. a firewall can prevent this connection. Some software firewalls are windows user specific, so you may have different security settings depending on whom is logged into Windows. This is the first thing I would look at...
