Item Message

I'm curious is there a way to get the item message to be like that of an item not found in the database dialog box? Sometimes people don't notice the item message screen (not looking at the screen), and they keep scanning, and obviously an item is missed, because during one of the scans it closed the Item Messages Dialog Box.
