Item not appearing on the transaction screen

We currently have our tills set up so that at the end of the tendering process the change window remains open until the close button is pressed in the change window via the touchscreen.

However, if a cashier forgets to close the change window and subsequently scans an item, the scanning process causes the change window to close but the item that was scanned does not appear on the transaction screen and the item can go through free of charge......

I know that I can set the change window to close automaticly via Config > options > POS options but this is not liked by the staff.

Is there any way I can make an item that has been scanned, with the change window left open, result in the change window being closed but the item scanned appearing on the transaction screen correctly, so that it is charged for and does not go through as an FOC.

We do have an add which was developed to resolve this issue in busy super market environment.This automatically closes the change window so that you dont have to manually press the change window.Also the change of the previous transaction is displayed at the top of the window so that you still have that information. I can't remember which ISV but one of them has an addon that you can specify how long the Change window will remain open. i.e. 5 sec. That way your employees have a chance to glance at the change screen before it disappears and when they are ready for the next customer they can just scanning without any worry of forgetting to close the change screen.
