Item Pictures

Hi,

Is there a way to change to a more centralized location for the picture directory? I tried copying all the pictures to a shared drive on the network, but when I configure the items in the Special tab to point to the network directory, the pictures appear as a broken image. I can't believe that the pictures MUST reside on the POS machine's drive. What am I overlooking?

You can use a shared directory for pictures/reports/receipts etc. I do it at all of my stores. I have done it with pictures and it seems to work fine.

Make sure that everyone has the necessary permissions for access to the shared directory.

Tom,

Thanks for the reply. Let me get a little more specific. I have an External Drive that is directly connected to the PC running RMS. It's known as the E drive.

I created a shared folder called "Pictures" on that E drive and then opened an item and pointed to the E Drive/Pictures directory for the picture. But no matter what, the picture will NOT show. The weirdest part is that when I copied the picture from the E Drive into the normal "Pictures" folder under RMS, then went BACK to the E Drive and pointed to that same picture, it started showing. So then I deleted the picture from the normal Pictures folder while still pointing to the shared drive and the picture stopped showing again.

I'm at a loss to figure out why. ?????

In order for the picture to work it needs to reside in the Pictures directory specified in SO Admin|Configuration. This setting applies to all items. You cannot store pictures anywhere else. Clicking on the lookup button in the item properties and navigating to a directory other than the one specified in the configuration will not work.

If SO Admin|Configuration|Paths|Pictures is C:\...\Store Operations\Pictures (the default) then the picture files must be in that directory. No subdirectories are allowed. The only acceptable entry in the Item Properties|Special|Picture: field is the filename.

Yes, this is stupid.

If you change your configuration in SO Admin to E:\Pictures you should be OK.

If you share the drive with others, you will have to reconfigure SO Admin to point at the appropriate network drive & directory.

TT,

Thank you! The funny thing is that I haven't logged into the Admin module in months and completely forgot that's where all the paths were! I setup the entire RMS system without a partner so some of the little used configurations like that are out of site, out of mine to me.

Thanks once again!
