Accessing and opening reports remotely to RMS Store Operations

Hi, I am attempting to access my report functions remotely from my home to my office RMS. I have the connectivity via pcAnyware, but not sure if I need to have the RMS appliciations (HQ and/or SO) running on my remote pc at home to run my inventory and time keeping reports. I am also not sure of the licensing for this to happen.

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Using PCanywhere won't require RMS to be installed on the local PC and doesn't violate the license agreement.

PCanywhere sends screen updates to the remote PC and mouse clicks and keystrokes to the remote PC. All of the 'real' activity takes place on the host PC.

Hi, yes thanks. I just wasn't sure if accessing RMS remotely would require disrupt any active user(s) on the host PC? I want to access some report functions, and I was wondering if I need to do this "after hours" as to not disrupt the host PC which is also the POS register?

Thanks for any further comments.

Yes you will disrupt your cashiers. You could install RMS on your home computer (without violating any licensing agreements), setup a VPN connection to your store and connect to your store database. You can then run all the reports you want without disrupting your cashiers.

Note that this will probably be extremely slow.

Actually, it isn't that bad (VPN). Using SO Manager to connect to a remote database can be done over a VPN, and you only have delays when opening/closing dialogs and waiting for lists (Item/PO, etc) to populate. These delays are negligible over a fast connection, and only mildly annoying on a standard DSL/Cable line.

However, what I like to do is put a cheap basic computer at the store location with the Manager software on it, and then run some sort of remote access software to view that terminal's "screen". In fact, the computer doesn't need to have a physical screen, or even a keyboard and mouse for that matter.

You would have to work out your printing requirements - depends on your remote access software solution. I use NetSupport Manager over a VPN connection. Works great. Since it is over a VPN, the dummy terminal can print to any printer available on the WAN, including the remote printer (local to me) on the VPN.
