Okay, so you say I should use a kit if I have say 4 items of different prices and I don't want an employee mess with it as they can in an assembly. I have read about it, and I am a bit confused...it says that it will build the kit for me...what's that? Here is the situation I have a "Gift Package" that contains 4 items I currently sell, if the shelf is running low on any of the items, we break the gift pack and put the items on the shelf...using an assembly this is no problem...except that a cashier can edit assemblies.

The component items in a Kit are taken out of inventory at the time the kit is "Built" (See the Kit tab in Item Properties). Kit1 contains ItemA, ItemB, ItemC, ItemD (Qty. One of Each)...
Starting Inventories: Kit1 = 0 ItemA = 10 ItemB = 50 ItemC = 6 ItemD = 25
On the Kit Tab of Item Properties for Kit1, you will be able to "Build" up to 6 Kits (the quantity of ItemC - the lowest stock level of the component Items) - Say you build 3 Kits, meaning that you actually put the items in a basket and shrink wrap it...
Ending Inventories: Kit1 = 0 + 3 = 3 ItemA = 10 -3 = 7 ItemB = 50 - 3 = 47 ItemC = 6 - 3 = 3 ItemD = 25 - 3 = 22
Now you sell out of your 3 remaining ItemC, and decide to take one of your kits apart and put it's components back on the shelf. Go back to the Kit tab of the Kit1 Item and "Breakout" 1 Kit.
Ending Inventories: Kit1 = 3 -1 = 2 ItemA = 7 +1 = 8 ItemB = 47 +1 = 48 ItemC = 0 +1 = 1 ItemD = 22 + 1 = 23
An assembly is a logical grouping of items - a Kit is (assumed to be) a physical grouping that is counted as a diffenert inventory item once it is 'built'...
