Message Timeout ??? Why ???

Hi all,

we have a setup for VPN though it is permanently connected thru a router.

Once the HQ client is attempting to connect @ scheduled time. This error is always popping up " Connection to socket was unsuccessful: Message timeout".

Did anyone experience this problem ? what would be the cause and solutions , if any ?

thanks

Did u open HQ Client Configurations, went to HQ Server tab, and tested network connection? I assume that HQ Client can't connect to HQ Serverfor a reason or another like wrong IP address, wrong or blocked port, HQ Server is not listening

The port u specify in HQ client must be the same port specified in HQ Server on which it is listening.

I assume that your connection never succeeds and the error u mentioned is permanent, plz confirm. I assume too that testing network connection from HQ Client configuration is successful, am i right?

Yes. HQ Server is listening at port 34200

Nope..if we do it manually by clicking connect or server-->connect, it works...but if I go thru the event log..this error comes up..when it suppose to connect @ the schedule time.

Yes..it is successful.

Hi Greg,

Is this error happening on all of your locations - or just one?

we have almost 30 shops...since I came here, I am trying to configure those shop to connect before 11am or even before that..our report should be available before 8am (Target) but due to some errors it was extended till data would come..

Now,it is schedule to connect 2 shops @ time with time interval of 30mins before the next 2 shops would connect. Most of the shops connect @ schedule time. But there are shops which fails and this error comes.

2 HQ Server..does it mean you have also to 2 HQ data ??? in an average...600 trnx..

How many sh> It supposedly does, but I have faced situations in which I got the same error

if several stores are processing 401 in the same time, i never saw it while processing other worksheets (HQ Server can handle many stores in the same time if not processing 401), please note that i'm not stating a fact, i'm just telling an opinion, it only happened with me while 401 is processed for several stores in the same time

balancing, I believe that many people will criticize my opinion coz RMS is supposed to handle many connections in the same time and you can run several instances on the same machine, but I'm just telling my experience, it just worked with me when I distributed connections to 2 HQ servers on 2 machines, i'm sure there r other options but this is what went fine with me

Good morning, Greg.

This is not a functionality of your stores bumping into each other. You would not get an error as such. If you have more than one store connecting at the exact same time - you will just get an error on HQ Mgr that one of the two stores 401 failed. You will then have to recreate the 401 by copying it and resending (copy because simply creating a new one will not capture the data from the dropped communication).

Regarding your connections schedule, with only 30 locations connecting maybe

1x before 11:00am, you are fine. I am sure you have mapped this out well.

I have not worked with stores connecting via a vpn, so I will not be of much help there. But, I do get the same thing you have every so often. It is usually something relating to Norton, or whatever free spywear the store thought would be fun to install that day.

I can see that you are using port 34200, and I am sure you have checked with the location. Is their test network successful? Have you asked them to export the log file so you can review it? I have a store with a messed up internal ID, and I did not know the error until they exported the log file.

If this is 1 of 30 with issues, really get your hands on this store (if possible) and see what is different about them. I would do this before it gets worse as time goes by.

Basically, I just did not want to see you get all side tracked by your connections schedule when that is not the issue. I have 83 stores connecting hourly.
