PCCharge Payment Server, RMS timeout?

May 02, 2005 4 Replies

Hello,

Having used the Knowledge Base description, I have attempted to configure RMS with PCCharge Payment Server.

I have shared and can "see/write" with full permissions to the PCCharge folder and specified the path in Administrator (I've also mapped it as a network drive). The credit card tender type type specifies to use EDC.

Finally, I have a sample user 6 set up on my PCCharge Server and the register is also called 6.

I have been handpunching my credit card info (approval left blank, expiration date as 08/06), due to the fact that RMS doesn't recognize our current Everest Plus pinpads.

I might have to get a mag stripe for testing purposes.

What else could be going wrong? Is it the lack of the raw data track? Or, in the absence of a mag-reader, should the raw data track be unchecked?

Or is the PC Charge Pro a whole different kettle of fish?

I've looked through the newsgroups, so forgive me if I missed the answer or if it's already been addressed.

Thanks! Kevin

What exactly is happening? Are you getting an error message returned from PCCharge? Is RMS trying to connect to PCCharge & timing out?

Remember that you need to have Payment server running and logged in, and the status bar should show "System ready". Also, PCCharge should be open to the credit card screen.

Thanks for the reply Mr. Adams, you're quite the resource in the newsgroup.

On the POS computer, I don't have any service/client for PC Charge running, I only have PCCharge Payment Server on our backend server.

RMS is timing out before/during attempted communication with PC Charge.

Admittedly, I am unfamiliar with PC Charge Payment Server. Our current setup was for our current system that I am trying to evaluate the feasibility of migrating away from.

Reading the newsgroup, I thought it would be as simple as sharing the folder, having the user specified in the Payment Server and then off to the races.

I do not see a "System Ready" in the POS screen. Further troubleshooting reveals that there isn't communication between RMS and the Server as I switched the user ID and there wasn't a blatant error of mismatched/invalid user ID.

Should there be an additional piece of the puzzle, i.e. client software running on the cashier station?

Also, you mention that a said user should be logged in or made active on the Payment Server... Shouldn't this switch on the fly, and shouldn't the Server run without actively logging in, as long as the accounts/user IDs have been made?

I need to start from scratch on this setup. Forgive me for the simplistic and exhausting questions, I'm currently poring over the manual for PCCharge as we speak!

Again, I'm in an evaluation phase, and having migrated all my data and editting the POS interface to my liking, a proof-of-concept for CC processing is the final piece of the puzzle.

Any recommendations on mag strip readers? My current pinpads/swipes aren't overtly compatible without the TPI soft or Mercury solution.

Thanks, Kevin

There are 2 types of users in PC Charge. I don't remember the exact terminology PCCharge uses, but it's something like this:

"Users" are what you add for each register (you need a license for each ) - they should be named to match the register numbers - "1", "2", etc...

"Accounts" or "Operators" are used to log into PC Charge Payment Server to maintain the system, run reports, etc. The default account is "system" and there is a limited account called "anonymous".

You need to have Payment Server running on the server and logged in using an account - "anonymous" is fine for payment processing, batch settlement and reports. The "System Ready" message will be on the Payment Server screen, NOT in RMS. Even though it's called Payment "Server", the interface needs to be open for it to work - at least that's how it's worked for me, maybe someone else knows better though. Call Go Software's support - they have always been very helpful and have never charged me for support.

I added an "Everyone" group with full rights to the folder and my XP test system functions and successfully makes a PCCharge transaction using RMS.

Thanks for your insight. I had already made the User account correlate with the register name, I was concerned that that was the problem. Register 1 is numbered as 1, and my PCCHarge Pro User is 1.

However, despite all my changes, I can't get my current Windows 98 (traditional chinese edition) test system (using the same adjustments mind you) to work.

I think it's due to the way Win2K handles file sharing and networking versus the Win98 machine.

I only have 256MB of memory on board too, there is a lot of lag for the Win98 machine when it first goes to make the CC transaction with the Payment Server. It doesn't refresh on-screen for a good 30 seconds.

I'm going to bring the workstation up to 512 MB and see what's going on with the whole network filesharing for Win98 versus Win2K.

But it is as easy as specifying the account number, processor profile, check-off EDC and then log in as anonymous on the PCCHarge Server to fire off transactions. Just for the record!

Thanks! Kevin
