POS and Gratuity field on 40-col receipt template

We are the Retail POS system and need to be able to add a gratuity field to our 40-col receipt template. Has anyone created a receipt template that allows them to add tips to credit/debit purchases?

The inclusion of tip income seems pretty implicit in food service establishments and we're wondering why MS didn't develop such a solution, since their product is advertised as ideal for food service (e.g. coffee shop).

RMS is OK for concession stands or cafeteria style food service where the customer gets their food at the register, pays and walks away. RMS doesn't support the type of card processing that restaurants use (pre-authorize the card, then settle it with the tip amount). RMS is also not great for tracking food cost or spoilage. There are some add-ins that are supposed to make RMS usable for a restaurant environment, but it's an unusually poor fit out of the box.

You can pretty easily add the gratuity line to the receipt, just open the receipt.xml file in a text editor and search for "signature" you should find the section that creates the signature line. Just copy that section and change the label. Not really going to help you though, since RMS won't print the signature receipt until the card has already been charged.

You may be able to work out a workflow that works for you using a work order, but if you need to accept tips, this is a poor system choice...

Too bad. So is there a way to change the settlement amount before submitting transactions for settlement? On the Retail POS product, the amount can be highlighted, but not changed. If I can add a tip/total line, then change the settlement amount of charge purchases when closing a batch, then I've got the workaround I need.

All I need is a way to edit the settlement amount prior to submitting.

In case that last response was too brief or cryptic...

On Retail POS->Store->Settle Credit/Debit Transactions window, all transactions approved for settlement are listed but remain unsettled. As with an online (eCommerce) authorization->capture transaction, if we could change each item subtotal that had a gratuity added to the subsequent transaction total, then settle the transaction, our problem of not receiving tips for our baristas would be solved.

We require a POS-, not RMS-, workaround that will provide us with this capability. The system was sold to us a a perfect match for a small coffee shop POS solution; however, this small feature being absent is greatly impacting our employees' tip income.

Migrating to a more full-featured solution would be a substantial monetary hit (migration, setup, testing, training, etc...) that we would like first to eliminate any possibility that this system can succeed for us.

Jeff,

I'd love to have access to CustomerSource but there is only one Gold partner in our area and I can't get them to respond to our requests for information/membership.

Mark,

As far as I know, there is nothing on the horizon to include this feature in either RMS or MSPOS. You might look for the suggestion for this addition and vote for it, as I know the suggestion has been made before for the RMS program too.

Also in the future to prevent confusion, please refer to your program as MSPOS as RMS has a program called POS. Make sure you include that in your posts and/or subject line.

One last thing, there doesn't appear to be a receipt template for MSPOS with the gratuity line on it from MS. I assumed you were using RMS. A MSPOS receipt could be customized to add one though.
