POS - Enter quantity manually after entering your item lookup code

When you enter an item lookup code and tab over in POS, a quantity of "1" is automatically displayed by default. Is there any way to set things where when you enter the item lookup code that you are prompted to manually enter the quantity. I've read on another post about entering a "12*" in the quantity field. What is the significance of adding the * symbol?

The * tells POS to add the prior quantity, so if you enter 12* and then scan the item, it will enter the quantity of 12 for that item. You don't enter the * in the quantity field, you do it before you scan the item. Craig

That's correct, after you put in 12* the field will go blank, it looks like you never entered anything. Then scan or enter the ILC and it will enter the item with 12 as the quantity. Craig

If the POS screen is configured to display the status bar, the entered quantity appears in the top right corner where the current time is shown usually. And you can also change the enterd quantity, if you made a mistake. For instance 100* followed by 10* makes the quantity of the next item 10. Also you can scan or enter the ILC or do the lookup with F2 - the quantity is the last n*. Koit
