Recommended Architecture and Hardware?

Hello,

I intend to install MS RMS w/ the HQ Module. There will be 3 stores, 3 lanes per store. 2 Lanes as actual registers, the 3rd used mostly for work orders, service request and special orders, etc. There will be an office computer as well.

My question is which computer makes the most sense to run the database portion from?

If I put in on a register, the machines will not be doing anything else, but register functionality, however it'll be out in the open and could be messed w/ etc...

If I put it on the manager's office computer, they will be using the computer for other tasks that may sometimes be intensive and that could affect the overall perfomance of the system [I assume], but they hopefully be more reponsible and ensure their computer is up and functional all the time. And, they can manage the backups and etc. more easily.

Also, what are the ACTUAL requrimentsMemory/CPU] for a Register Lane and the MSDE server? [Haven't purchased the hardware yet]

Any advice/comments would be appreciated.

We use ML110's at most of our sites to run the database - but we also do lots of other things as well...a good pc would run it ok.

For the registers we actually buy sec> Hello,

Scott- For $450 @ Staples, you can get a 3.4Ghz.. 512 MB Ram, 160GB HD, and DVD+RW, Compaq CPU... that's less than $1,500 to have dedicated machines running SQL at all three of your stores.
