How do I open the firewall on winxp sp2 (RMS 1.3.x running msde database on the cash register) to the back office computer using SOM.

Allow exception for the SQL port TCP 1433 in the windows firewall configuration of your control panel. Make sure to specify the scope to your local network so it doesn't invite outside virus.
